College Delivers Biggest Ever HE And Employment Fair

Students who are hoping to progress to university or secure employment were given a wealth of information at South Cheshire College’s biggest-ever annual Higher Education and Employment Fair.

Representatives from over 45 top UK universities were on hand to offer advice to students at South Cheshire College who are thinking of university as their next step.

Fifteen local employers also attended the annual fair to offer advice about the world of work and discuss the career opportunities which exist in different employment sectors.

The event, organised by the College’s dedicated Careers team, took place on Tuesday 1st April 2014 on the First Floor of the College Library and Crescent.

Many Russell Group Universities were also in attendance at the event including Liverpool, Leeds and Birmingham.

Russell Group universities are committed to the highest levels of academic excellence in both teaching and research and are found in all four nations and in every major city of the UK.

Information was available on universities closer to the College including Keele, Staffordshire and Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU).

A-Level student Caroline Grasmeder was one of the students who attended the fair to seek information about Liverpool and Manchester Universities.

Caroline, 17, of Sandbach, said: “I found the fair really useful and I’ve gained information about two of the universities I want to apply for, Manchester and Liverpool, as well as other top institutions

“I think events like this give you a great opportunity to explore the range of opportunities that exist beyond college.”

Employers at the event included Cheshire Police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, the Royal Air Force and Cheshire East Council.

South Cheshire College had a strong presence at the event and used it as an opportunity to promote the full range of Higher Education programmes it offers.

The College runs an exciting spectrum of Foundation Degrees in conjunction with other universities including Business Management, Coaching and Sports Development and Event Management.

Higher National Certificates and Higher National Diplomas are also available in areas such as Computing and Systems Development, Construction, Mechanical Engineering Health and Social Care and Graphic Design.

Members of the College’s careers team were on hand during the day to provide advice on thinking through choices.

A specialist Oxford University workshop in the afternoon, delivered by Oxford University’s Access and Admissions Officer Rebecca Wilson, was also available to students who are thinking of applying to Oxford.

Deborah Leake, Careers Co-ordinator at South Cheshire College, said: “The event was the biggest Higher Education and Employment Fair the College has ever hosted and we were very pleased with the turnout from employers and universities.

“Over 90 delegates attended the fair and we hope that all our students benefited from the information and expertise that was available to them on the day.

“I’d like to say a big thank-you to the Careers team and staff in other college departments who helped to make this event such a success.”
