Nantwich Christms Lights Switch On - ‘Get to Nantwich Early' Plea

Organisers of the big Nantwich Christmas Lights Switch On next Saturday (30th November 2013) have urged the public to get to the town early if they want to get the most out of the event, which starts at 5.30pm in the town square. And free parking from 4pm has been offered at Nantwich Town Football Club, to enable as many visitors as possible to enjoy the evening’s entertainments.

Last year’s event saw large crowds gather to watch the now traditional celebrity switch on and firework display, and with added attractions this time, even greater numbers are expected for what promises to be a spectacular event. The switch on has been organised by the Town Council, with support from the community and local businesses.

Nantwich Deputy Mayor, Cllr Christine Farrall told us:

“We will be staging a super Christmas Lights switch on this year in Nantwich. Everyone has really pulled together to make this happen, and the free parking offered by Nantwich Town FC is typical of the support we have received from local businesses and organisations. We thank them, and all the local businesses who have contributed to something that is obviously so good for Nantwich as a whole”.

“We are expecting big crowds for this occasion and there will be a great atmosphere. The town is getting quite a reputation across the region for the number and quality of the events that we put on, and we think that this one will be just as good. As well as the switch on itself, performed by Nantwich’s own TV Vet Steve Leonard, we will have performances from local dancers AJ and Chloe who performed so well in front of a TV audience of 13 million in Britain’s Got Talent. Father Christmas will be with us (at no cost to parents!), and there will be a children’s fairground, seasonal music, carol singing, and a hog roast, amongst other attractions. We will finish with a musical firework finale, which is going to be really special!”

Speaking on behalf of local businesses, Chamber of Commerce Director Shaun Cafferty encouraged people to visit the town during the day itself, and thus be in the town square nice and early for the start of the entertainments.

“We have a farmers market on that day, as well as our great regular indoor market, so we are encouraging people to make a day of it and come and enjoy our range of special shops and café culture beforehand. There is a lot to see and do even before the event itself begins at 5.30pm, and early visitors will be able to secure the best positions to see everything. Why not stay in town afterwards and have a meal and refreshments before going home? It promises to be an unmissable event, so come to Nantwich this Saturday”!
