Interesting and Informative International Trade Forum

Our first International Trade Forum of 2017 was held at Manchester Metropolitan University in Crewe on 15th February.  Following a tasty breakfast and some lively interaction to kick-start the event, delegates heard some very interesting presentations from keynote speakers.

David Lloyd, OBE, of the Middle East Association looks after Saudi Arabia and Northern Iran and has extensive experience of postings in Kuwait, Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia – to name but a few.  David talked about business opportunities in the region and provided some important insights into trading conditions in some of the key Middle Eastern markets.

Dougie Eaglesham, of Bodhi360, has an impressive track record of working with UK Special Forces as a Communications Specialist, having travelled extensively and also worked with the Saudi Arabian National Guard.  Dougie gave a snapshot of why understanding the cultural practices and preferences of potential clients can help you make friends and influence budget holders.

Finally, Paul Wilcox, International Trade Adviser for the Department for Trade and Industry presented details on the support that is available from the DIT for both new and experience exporters.

The Q&A session at the end of the presentations generated some enjoyable discussion (and perspectives) which really highlighted the quality of experiences in this particular area of the exporting world.

Finally, Jacqui Morris, the Chamber Manager and International Trade Co-ordinator gave an update on latest developments at the Chamber, including the launch of a new suite of export training courses, details of which can be found on the Chamber portal.  Keep an eye out for the next International Trade E-Newsletter in March, and remember to put the date of our next Forum meeting in your diary – 21st June.
