Expert Logistics Competition Winners Are Going Places

A South Cheshire College design duo are going places after helping distribution firm Expert Logistics bring its core company values to life.

Graphic Design students Megan Shepherd and Lauren Walker won a competition which gave them the chance to show off their artistic talent and work to a live client brief.

The task set by Expert Logistics was to produce a set of designs to reflect the firm’s key values of Caring, Fun, Driven, Bold and Smart – in a way that they could be displayed in live environments across the company’s Crewe head office and network of 11 UK outbases.

Students on the Graphic Design Higher National Certificate (HNC) course and Foundation degree Graphic Design Digital Media course all participated in the project.

The competition was the latest link-up between Expert Logistics and the College and builds on the excellent relationship between the two organisations.

Expert Logistics has been delivering electrical goods throughout the UK for over 25 years and works for clients including, Electrolux and Boots.

Lauren and Megan received £250 each in cash, framed certificates and bottles of champagne as a reward for their efforts.

Their artwork was officially unveiled at a celebratory event which was attended by members of the Expert Logistics management team and college staff.

Expert Logistics Managing Director Dave Ashwell and other representatives from the company were invited to college earlier this year to review student progress on the designs before choosing a winner.

Lauren’s artwork was selected to reflect the ‘Caring’ and ‘Bold’ values while Megan produced eye-catching designs to show off the ‘Driven’, ‘Fun’ and ‘Smart’ values.

Dave Ashwell said: “We are always looking to work with and develop local talent. South Cheshire College sits at the heart of the Crewe community and were pleased to be working with them again.

“The winning artwork is excellent and we are delighted with the work that Lauren and Megan have produced for us.

“These designs will be on display for a long time and we believe the artwork that has been produced will act as fundamental visual reminders of the values we want all of our team to uphold.”

Former Shavington High School pupil Megan completed a Graphic Design Higher National Certificate (HNC) at South Cheshire College in the summer and is now studying a Graphic Design Higher National Diploma (HND).

Lauren, 20, of Willaston, has her sights set on a place at Staffordshire University after completing the Foundation degree programme.

Former Malbank School pupil Lauren said: “It’s a great feeling to win this competition and seeing my work up at the Expert Logistics headquarters makes the hard work worthwhile.

“It’s great to think that the designs will also be seen across the country and I hope that they create a lasting impression for years to come.”

Mike Smith, Graphic Design Lecturer at South Cheshire College, said: “Students jumped at the opportunity to enter this competition.

“The project has enabled them to work on a live brief for a top national company and demonstrate their skills outside the College.”
