Coronavirus Roadmap: Stage Two has the go ahead

Stage two (from 12 April) confirmed by Boris Johnson on Monday 5th April as its four tests of easing Covid restrictions were being met.

Non-essential retail and outdoor hospitality reopen for the first time in months - and the 'stay local' message will end, meaning some domestic holidays will be possible.

Below are the changes coming on 12 April:

  • All shops allowed to open

  • Hairdressers, beauty salons and other close-contact services can open

  • Restaurants and pubs allowed to serve food and alcohol to customers sitting outdoors

  • Gyms and spas can reopen, as can zoos, theme parks, libraries and community centres

  • Members of the same household can take a holiday in England in self-contained accommodation

  • Weddings - up to 15 people

  • Funerals - up to 30 people, with 15 at wakes

  • Children will be able to attend any indoor children's activity

  • Care home visitors will increase to two per resident

You should still stay 2 metres apart from anyone who is not in your household or support bubble where possible.

You must wear a face covering in many indoor settings, such as shops and places of worship, and on public transport, unless you are exempt.

Step 3 no earlier than 17 May will be focussing on easing limits on social contact and the further re-opening of business and activities.
