New Year Message from the Chamber Chairman

Created by

Although 2012 proved to be another difficult year, it was encouraging to see the phenomenal levels of success achieved by many businesses, both large and small across all sectors of our local economy.

This was clearly demonstrated at our Annual Business Awards and at other local, regional and national ceremonies throughout the year, at which businesses from this area achieved many well deserved awards for their achievements.

Such resilience and determination has become a strong characteristic of businesses in South Cheshire and gives the Chamber every confidence that we can look forward to the New Year with optimism and belief that we will once again meet any challenges that 2013 may bring.

Importantly, 2013 will also provide the business community with a major opportunity to help to shape and influence the future economic growth of South Cheshire.

Cheshire East Council will soon be undertaking a consultation exercise on the new Local Development Plan which will become a blueprint for the future economic growth of our area over the next 20 years.

The proposals in the Plan will be designed to enable a “jobs-led” growth strategy.

It is vital therefore that it should meet the needs of business and provide an environment within which the private sector can generate the wealth and create the jobs that will be needed in the future. This is not just about attracting new businesses to the area but is equally about providing local businesses with the opportunity to develop and grow. It is also about providing the right new houses in the right places so that the population grows in balance with the economy.
There has therefore never been a greater opportunity or need for the business community to work together for the benefit of all and I would call on all businesses to make their views known so that the Chamber can be both authoritative and assertive in its response.

During the coming year, the Chamber is aiming to concentrate on stepping up its core representational role. Whether through its Business Portal, its involvement on the All Change for Crewe Partnership Board or its meetings with  Business Forum members in Nantwich so that we can have a clearly agreed position on all issues affecting the local economy.

So, as we enter what promises to be a year of opportunity, I would like to wish our Patrons, our members and the whole of the business community of South Cheshire a very happy and prosperous New Year.

Yours Faithfully,

John Dunning
Chairman
South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce & Industry
