'Public Relations - Managing the Media' is a short, two session course, designed to equip small to medium sized businesses/organisations with the necessary skills required when engaging in effective media management/promotional activity.

Whilst many businesses/organisations may not need full-time communication support, a basic knowledge/understanding of public relations and in particular, how to effectively engage with the local media to help raise a business/organisation's profile, can prove to be an effective and cost efficient marketing tool.

To help make 'Public Relations - Managing the Media' more accessible, the course will run as an evening class via two, three hour sessions running from 6.00 - 9.00 pm and covering the following areas:


  • What is public relations?
  • The role of the media and how it operates
  • What a journalist wants
  • Methods of media engagement inc; Press release production; What makes a good press release?; Reaching the right audience
  • Interview Skills: Interview types; Interview techniques; Getting your message across
  • Practical exercises with feedback

Run in partnership by South Cheshire College and Area Business Academy Limited and delivered by two leading Cheshire based public relations practitioners/former journalists.
