Do you have hip or knee pain? Everybody Leisure delivers new ESCAPE-Pain rehabilitation programme.

We are celebrating after being awarded National Lottery funding to deliver ESCAPE- Pain in Cheshire East.

The grant has been awarded through the Health Innovation Network in conjunction with Arthritis Research UK, as part of Sport England’s Active Ageing Fund. This allows us to deliver a funded, 6 week, evidenced based rehabilitation programme ESCAPE-Pain; sometimes called the ‘knee or hip class’, designed to reduce pain and disability for people with chronic joint pain.

Over the 6 weeks, you will receive:

  1. Information, advice and support from qualified ESCAPE-Pain Instructor’s, to help you better manage chronic joint pain and lead a more active life.

  2. Take part in a group exercise programme, twice a week over 6 weeks, tailored to your individual needs.

  3. A chance to socialise with and learn from other people living with Osteoarthritis and will result in you being able to carry out normal activities, manage symptoms and be more active.

ESCAPE-Pain reduces pain, improves physical function, mental wellbeing, self-confidence and self-esteem. The programme will be available for anyone aged over 55 years, who have Osteoarthritis of the knee and/or hip pain for at least 6 months, inactive doing less than 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise weekly, independently mobile and able to carry out regular exercise and committed to taking part in 2 classes per week over 6 weeks and returning for a final session on week 12.

ESCAPE-Pain will be starting in May 2018 at:

·         Crewe Lifestyle Centre:Tuesdays & Fridays 1.30-2.30pm

·         Holmes Chapel Community Centre: Mondays & Wednesdays 1.30-2.30pm and,

·         Macclesfield Leisure Centre: Mondays & Fridays 2.30-3.30pm.

Donna Williamson, our Health and Wellbeing Manager is thrilled to have been awarded the funding: “It’s a great opportunity for us to support those with chronic pain in being more active and improving their quality of life. We are delighted to be working with comissioners and other partners across the country,  rolling out the programme within community settings. Thank you to everyone who plays the National Lottery, we wouldn’t be able to do this without you."
