Cheshire employees can earn while they learn

BUSINESSES in Cheshire have the opportunity to help their employees gain degree qualifications thanks to an innovative degree apprenticeship scheme available at Manchester Metropolitan University's Cheshire campus in Crewe.

The new Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship is an industry-driven and government-supported approach, which enables businesses to develop their own graduate-level employees.

Manchester Metropolitan is one of a select number of universities to be part of the scheme.

The partially funded degrees for new or current full-time employees, has been developed to specifically meet the skills needs of employers. The degree programme is part-time over four years, and the commitment is generally one day per week, up to 24 full days per year.

Subjects cover the range of areas required by managers, with three project based units developed in collaboration with businesses focusing on an area of interest or need within each organisation.

Apprentices work full-time with their employer, while studying towards a BA (Hons) Business Management Professional at Manchester Metropolitan University's Cheshire Campus in Crewe. Successful graduates will also earn full Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Chartered Manager status.

At present, the Government will pay two-thirds of the apprentice's University fees. Employers pay the remaining third, currently £9,000 over four years. Incentives are available to offset these payments.

Larger companies will be able to utilise payments from the new Apprenticeship Levy arriving in March 2017 - this will apply to organisations with an annual pay bill of over £3 million.
