Marta's Photo Makes Top 50 In World Competition

A talented South Cheshire College photography student has gained global acclaim after her image made the top 50 in an international photography competition.

Marta Ferenc was thrilled after discovering that her fashion portrait photo had been chosen for the Sony World Photography Awards gallery.

The 17-year-old South Cheshire College student entered the competition along with her classmates in the BTEC Level 3 Photography group.

Marta was shocked to hear about her success and see her work listed as ‘commended’ on the official World Photography Organisation website which features the Sony awards photos.

She asked her friend, Tilly Marsh, to pose as a model for the shot in the College’s fantastic newly revamped photography studio and submitted the image in black and white.

Marta, of Crewe, who is in her second year at college, said: “All the students in my group were encouraged to enter the competition by our tutor.

“I picked a couple of portrait shots that I’d taken as part of a course project and submitted them.

“I thought nothing of it until I received notification that my photo was in the top 50 gallery so it was a great surprise.”

Former Sir William Stanier High School pupil Marta is heading to Leeds College of Art to study photography when she completes her college studies.

Marta added: “It’s pleasing to see my photo alongside other entries from around the world and shows I’m doing things well.

“I really enjoy portrait and fashion photography and this is the route I want to go down when I head to university.

“The support I’ve received at college has been amazing and my photography skills have developed from the word go.”

Photography Lecturer Gary Sandilands is delighted with Marta’s achievement.

Gary said: “Marta has produced some stunning portrait images during her time at South Cheshire College but to be named in the top 50 in this competition is extra special.

“Marta has developed many aspects of her photography work but she has placed a particularly emphasis on portrait work so it’s pleasing to see her hard work and commitment pay off in this way.”
