Balfour Beatty Visit Paves The Way For Career Opportunities

South Cheshire College is forging exciting opportunities with Balfour Beatty to open students up to careers the within the construction industry.

Representatives from Balfour Beatty visited the Crewe college to speak with students about their next steps and potential careers with the organisation.

Balfour Beatty is a leading international infrastructure group which specialises in construction services, support services and infrastructure investments.

The visit was organised by the College’s Careers team and Higher Education Co-ordinator Karl Jackson.

Ged Sutton, Balfour Beatty Project Manager, and Kevin Hutchinson, Balfour Beatty Sustainability Manager, spoke to a range of students on vocational Engineering courses and Higher Education Construction programmes to promote future careers in the construction industry and potential next steps for students looking towards employment.

Kevin has spent the last decade at Balfour Beatty and has progressed up the ladder in a range of different roles while Ged has worked as a company Project Manager for the last 12 years.

Students had the opportunity to find out about the different career routes in the construction industry and the various opportunities available at Balfour Beatty and Cheshire East Council.

Kevin Hutchinson said: “It was great to be able to come to the College and speak to students about the different career prospects offered by Balfour Beatty.

“Balfour Beatty is committed to long-term development and career opportunities for young people and I look forward to seeing some of the students applying for our opportunities at Balfour Beatty, where they would gain valuable hands-on experience for their future careers.”

The Careers team at South Cheshire College have monthly spotlights on different careers and displays outside the Student Hub highlight these diverse employment options.

South Cheshire College Careers Co-ordinator Jayne Hennessey said: “We were delighted to welcome Kevin and Ged to the College.

“This was a great way to raise the profile of the construction industry, speak to professionals in the field and find out about the career opportunities that are out there locally.”
