Local and Economic Update

Cheshire East Council has published its Pre-Budget Consultation Report for 2019 to 2022. Set against a backdrop of increasing demand and rising costs, the report sets out proposals on the council’s financial plans as to how services will be delivered for the period from April 1st, 2019 through to March 31st, 2020.

Along with almost every other local authority, Cheshire East is facing a particularly challenging financial position with the reduction of central government funding to balance the position for the next three years. The Council is inviting opinions and view from members of South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce prior to agreement of the final budget by full council on 21 February 2019.

Cllr Paul Bates, Portfolio Holder for Finance and Communication and Alex Thompson, Head of Finance and Performance at Cheshire East Council will present the consultation and facilitate feedback from members before final budget proposals are presented to Cabinet."

The Pre-Budget Consultation document can be found on the Council's website

In addition, Hayley Kirkham, Head of Crewe High Growth City, will provide Chamber members with an update on the Crewe HS2 Masterplan.

Members will also see an overview of The British Chambers of Commerce Quarterly Economic Survey (QES), the largest and most representative independent business survey of its kind in the UK. Each quarter BCC Chamber members businesses are questioned on a wide range of issues, including: home sales and orders, export sales and orders, employment prospects, investment, recruitment difficulties, cash flow, confidence and price pressures. The QES is the first economic indicator of the quarter, published in advance of official figures and other private surveys, and it consistently mirrors trends in official data. For this reason, the survey is closely watched by policymakers such as the Bank of England. Copies of the infographics summarising the key points of the British Chamber of Commerce QES report will be available for members to take away.
