Chamber Economic and Local Update

Cheshire East Council is starting the conversation now on proposals to balance the Council’s medium term finances and aim to engage widely with the business community and individuals. The Pre Budget Consultation sets out detailed options that can balance the medium term finances, despite reductions in government grants and increasing demand for key services. The Council are looking to discuss their proposals with members of South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce. Cllr Paul Bates, Portfolio Holder for Finance and Communication and Alex Thompson, Head of Finance and Performance at Cheshire East Council will present the consultation and facilitate feedback from members before final budget proposals are presented to Cabinet."

There will be the opportunity for delegates to ask questions of the speakers.Members will also see an overview of The British Chambers of Commerce Quarterly Economic Survey (QES), the largest and most representative independent business survey of its kind in the UK. Each quarter BCC Chamber members businesses are questioned on a wide range of issues, including: home sales and orders, export sales and orders, employment prospects, investment, recruitment difficulties, cash flow, confidence and price pressures.

The QES is the first economic indicator of the quarter, published in advance of official figures and other private surveys, and it consistently mirrors trends in official data. For this reason the survey is closely watched by policymakers such as the Bank of England.
