Cyber Safe Forum

This event is now closed for portal bookings, if you would like to attend, please contact Jon Barnes Jon.Barnes@sccci.co.uk

Organised crime has quickly taken advantage of the opportunities offered by the Internet, particularly the growth in e-commerce and online banking. Specialist criminal groups target individuals, small businesses and large corporate networks to steal personal information in bulk in order to profit from the data available to them. In fact, all Internet-facing organisations are at risk of attack. And it’s not a question of if you’ll be attacked, but when you’ll be attacked. The majority of cyber-attacks are automated and indiscriminate, exploiting known vulnerabilities rather than targeting specific organisations. Your organisation could be being breached right now and you might not even be aware!

Cyber- attacks can disrupt and cause considerable financial and reputational damage to even the most resilient organisation. If you suffer a cyber- attack, you stand to lose assets, reputation and business, and potentially face regulatory fines and litigation – as well as the costs of remediation. The UK government's Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2017 found that the average cost of a cyber security breach for a large business is £19,600 and for a small to medium-sized business is £1,570.

Join us at our Chamber quarterly Cyber Safe Forum in partnership with experts Alison Gabbott and Mark Cotton from Cheshire Constabulary. The forum, open to Chamber members only, will help raise awareness of the threats of Cyber Crime to individuals and businesses across all sectors and sizes. Our experts will help allay fears by offering guidance and signposting to sources of specific support and assisting businesses in their preparation towards Cyber Essentials accreditation.

The quarterly forums will open up debate regarding current cyber issues, concerns and threats, and encourage best cyber-safe practice. Finally, delegates will hear more about Cheshire Police Cyber Crime activities, the support they offer and how they respond to any cyber-crime issues. There will be an opportunity for delegates to ask questions.
