Chamber Economic and Local Budget Update

Cheshire East Council has published a budget report that starts a conversation with residents, businesses and other stakeholders about its financial plans for the next three years. Its Pre-Budget Consultation 2018-21 sets out initial proposals for how the council could target resources more effectively and save money – while achieving a balanced budget. The consultation takes place against a challenging national background of an overall public sector deficit, which is being partly met by big reductions in government grants to councils, and rising demand for both adult social care and children in care.

The Council are looking to discuss their proposals with members of South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce. Cllr Paul Bates, Portfolio Holder for Finance and Communication and Alex Thompson, Head of Finance and Performance at Cheshire East Council will present the consultation and facilitate feedback from members before final budget proposals are presented to Cabinet."

The Pre-Budget Consultation document can be found on the Council's website

In addition Jez Goodman, Strategic Regeneration Manager (South) at Cheshire East Council will offer an update on local regeneration activities.

Members will also have the opportunity to see an overview of The British Chambers of Commerce Quarterly Economic Survey (QES), the largest and most representative independent business survey of its kind in the UK. Each quarter BCC Chamber members businesses are questioned on a wide range of issues, including: home sales and orders, export sales and orders, employment prospects, investment, recruitment difficulties, cash flow, confidence and price pressures. The QES is the first economic indicator of the quarter, published in advance of official figures and other private surveys, and it consistently mirrors trends in official data. For this reason the survey is closely watched by policymakers such as the Bank of England. Copies of the infographics summarising the key points of the British Chamber of Commerce QES report will be available for members to take away.
