Have you published your 2018 Modern Slavery Statement?

Created by

2017 was the first year for companies falling under the Modern Slavery Act 2015 to have published a Modern Slavery statement showing:

  • Business & supply chain structure;
  • Slavery & human trafficking policy;
  • Due diligence processes in relation to slavery & human trafficking in its business & supply chains;
  • Business & supply chain areas where risk of slavery & human trafficking are taking place, & steps taken to assess and mitigate risk;
  • How effectively it ensures that slavery & human trafficking is not taking place in its business or supply chains;
  • Training staff on slavery & human trafficking.

The statement should not be a tick box exercise that a company completes when publishing it. The statement should be a live document forming part of their business life. It should be ingrained into day to day business so that it reflects the ethical way it goes about serving its customers. The supply chain that feeds its profit should be helped and supported to eradicate abuse.

It is well known that compliance was disappointing & statements were not published in the numbers hoped nor with the detail required.

Business should have started publishing second statements and we will see how they comply?
